Advanced Learner Camp

Advanced Learners camp was a thought provoking, physically challenging three days. The time at Totara Springs was spent doing a wide variety of activities and listening to amazing lectures from Deborah Stevens, who has a doctorate in bio-ethics.
Students in the Advanced Learners classes have the opportunity to go to ‘nerd’ camp (as it is affectionately known) in years 9 and 10. The camp is organised by year 10 students and run by Otumoetai College and Totara Springs staff.
The main focus of the camp was to get the advanced learners to think, both individually and as a team, particularly during debates in Dr Stevens’ lectures. The physical and mental challenges had the intended effect, as well as being heaps of fun.
Overall, this camp is a great opportunity for students to get involved and develop their thinking skills.  Emily Wahab and Sam Lubbe - 9AL English
