Year 9 Science - Eye Dissection

Two Year 9 Science classes were given a big treat on Tuesday (13 June 17) when David Parlane from Otumoetai Optometry came to help with their Cow’s Eye Dissection. The students have been studying light and how the eye works. David presented captivating information and great anecdotes from his work and study as an Optometrist. Sharing his knowledge of studying and working with eyes for thirty years, David explained the similarities and differences of cow eyes and human eyes.

“Thanks” to David Parlane for giving up his morning to help these 55 Students (and a few slightly less cool Science teachers).

Dragon's Den

The Y12 and Y13 students who are participating in the Young Enterprise Scheme this year presented their product ideas through a detailed business plan to a line of judges from the Tauranga Business Community.
Out of the 21 teams competing from the region (including teams from Aquinas College, Tauranga Girls College, Tauranga Boys College and Papamoa College), two of our companies were placed in the top five.

Advanced Learner Camp was held between 8 – 10th May at Totara Spring’s Camp, Matamata.

Students were delivered challenges by Bio-Ethicist, Dr Deb Stevens regarding their ethical and legal perspectives. Physical challenges such as abseiling and other individual and team challenges were a major part of the camp.

Huge thanks to Totara Spring’s Staff, Otumoetai College Staff, Deb Stevens and our students for a fantastic camp.

At the recent PTA meeting, held on Wednesday evening (we meet on the third Wednesday of each month), the PTA donated $25,000.00 towards equipment in the new Fitness Centre.
This included two Impulse Commercial Treadmills and five Indoor Rowing Machines.
This generous donation is certainly appreciated and well done our PTA.
